A large scale symphony Shenzhou Song (Ode to China) has become popular in
China since its premier in Beijing Concert Hall last December.
Shenzhou Song is jointly performed by the China National Symphony
Orchestra, the China National Symphony Orchestra Choir and the China
National Chinese Opera and Dance Drama Company.
Shenzhou Song is divided into four parts including Morning in Spring,
Forge ahead Courageously, Treasure Island and Progress Rapidly, China.
Both the lyrics and music of the Shenzhou Song are written by Wang Yi.
The performance last December was conducted by famous conductor Li Xincao.
China's most influential newspaper People's Daily commented that although
in recent years, there have been many good symphony works which have won
this or that awards in China, it is rare that the works can really arouse
attention from the ordinary audience and echo their thinking. But why
does Shenzhou Song become so attractive this time? Because the symphony
sings out ordinary people's aspirations.
Since April 7th this year, the symphony has been performed 11 times all
over the country including that in Chinese Academy of Engineering last
week and that in Shanghai, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Zhuhai and Shenzhen.
