Qinghai-Tibet railway opens next year

Mar. 6 - Chinese Railway Ministry says the Qinghai-Tibet Railway will
start trial operation on July 1 next year.
Minister Liu Zhijun says the railway will help boost trade and cultural
exchanges between the Tibet Autonomous region and China's provinces.
Construction of the Qinghai-Tibet railway began in 2001 with a total
investment of 26 billion yuan, or over three billion US dollars, among
which two billion yuan, or over 240 million US dollars, has been spent
protecting the environment around the railway.
