China's railways top in the world on 4 major indices

On February 16, 2005, the Ministry of Railways revealed that the cargo
turnover volume of China's national railways reached 1,908.6 billion
tons/km in 2004, an increase of 11.7% over 2003. Passenger turnover
volume reached 569.7 billion passengers/km, up 14.6% over 2002. China's
railways ranked first in the world in four major indexes, including
passenger turnover volume, cargo transportation volume, cargo density and
converted turnover volume.
